Master Carlos Gracie Jr. is a man ahead of his time. Son of Grand Carlos Gracie Sr., he has used his unique visionary skills to create two of the worlds largest and most important Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Organizations: the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and Gracie Barra. As founder and current Chairman of both institutions, he has channeled his entrepreneurship to take our sport to the next level allowing thousands of individuals across the five continents to experience the ‘Gentle Art’ as students, instructors, or competitors.

As an instructor for more then 30 years, Master Gracie has produced more well known instructors and athletes. Master Gracie divides his time between the United States and Brazil and, despite his enormous responsibilities, still finds time to teach classes every day either at GB America or the GB main school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Professor Marcio Feitosa is the head instructor of Gracie Barra America and of the GB main school in Brazil. With more then 15 years of teaching experience, he is a primary example of a man who is fully dedicating his life to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gracie Barra and its members. Prof. Feitosa’s witty personality, enthusiasm, integrity, and leadership make the essence of GB America and touch all those around him. An outstanding competition background qualifies him as one of the best lightweight competitors on BJJ history. He collects many titles such as a 3-time World BJJ Champion and Abu-Dhabi Champion, Brazilian Nationals, Brazilian Team Tournament, and the Pan American Championships.

Professor Fabio Leopoldo is a 2nd degree black belt in jiu-jitsu. He has studied jiu-jitsu with the Gracie family since 1995 when he began training with Master Ryan Gracie in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He achieved his black belt in just five years of training. Over the last few years he has had the pleasure of studying under Masters Renzo Gracie, and Carlos Gracie Jr.(son of the founder of Gracie Jiu-jitsu). In addition to jiu-jitsu Fabio has also dedicated himself to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), training with the Gracie team, and traveling several times with them to Japan accompanying his teachers, Ryan and Renzo Gracie during many of their victories in the Pride Fighting Championships. Throughout his competitive jiu-jitsu career Fabio has earned many of the most prestigious titles the sport has to offer including being 3-time World Champion, 3-time Pan American Champion, 2-time Brazilian National Champion among many other titles. Also fighting in MMA Fabio has competed against some of the top fighters in his weight class from around the world in major events in the USA and Japan. In 2007 he fought on Renzo Gracie’s New York Pitbulls team in the IFL World Team Championships where they won the world title and became champions of the league.

Prof. Almeida has had the privilege of training with, and learning from, some of the best of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. students, like Master Renzo Gracie, Prof. Ricardo Almeida, and Prof. Marcio Feitosa. All of them played a key role on the development of his Jiu-Jitsu style.

Professor Flavio has won several national and international titles, such as: World Championship, PanAms, Brazilian Nationals, etc.

Gracie Barra Santa Barbara Belt Ceremony

Time flies by and another belt ceremony in going to take place in our school. It feels like it was yesterday when I had the opportunity to promote my first student.

Five years later we have a much bigger group with lots of students working towards the same goal: Learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

I think it’s time to reward some of these students for all the effort and dedication that they have been putting into their training.

With that said, I would like to invite everyone to our belt ceremony, to take place on saturday, July 12, 11 am, at the Solvang school.

All students, friends and family are welcome!

The ceremony will be followed by a big party! After the students  get promoted, we will all celebrate together during our 1st. Gracie Barra Pool Party!!!

This event is open for everyone looking for fun, good food, music and a nice day around the pool!  Come have a great time with our team and enjoy the party with us!

Attention: Dress code will be enforced. Swimsuit is mandatory!!!

See everyone there!

World Jiu Jitsu Championship results

The party is over, but for those who were at the California State University Gymnasium last weekend, the memories are everlasting.

With the end of another World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, it is time to recover from defeat or rejoice in the good results from long months of training.

We would like to thank everyone who supported the Gracie Barra Family at the World Championship 2008. We brought home 3 trophies: Third place on the overall team results, first place on the white belts and second place on the females division.

Gracie Barra Santa Barbara had 7 athletes representing the team and got 1 bronze medal. It was a great event and one more important step forward for the growth of our sport. We all had so much fun during the 4 days of competition that we are already looking forward to the Worlds No Gi Chapionship that will take place on August 9th and 10th.
